GiraConnect does not run your timers – the Gira HomeServer does. The app only writes the switch points; the HomeServer triggers them itself. So there is no extra system that has to stay online, and after the one-time setup the machine can be cut off from the internet entirely.

What exactly is HELITS GiraConnect?

A web interface for the universal time switches (UZSU) of a Gira HomeServer 4. Operators configure switch points graphically on a Gantt board, enable or disable timers and manage 20 reusable presets – instead of editing raw switch points in the HomeServer. Everything runs through the HomeServer's CGI API.

Does GiraConnect have its own scheduler?

No – and that is deliberate. The time switches run inside the Gira HomeServer; GiraConnect only writes the switch points into it. The HomeServer triggers them itself. That means there is no second system that has to stay online for your timers to fire.

Can it run completely offline / air-gapped?

Yes. At runtime the product needs no CDN, no external scripts and no external fonts – everything is bundled locally. The only network connection goes to the HomeServer in the local network. After a one-time online setup the machine can be disconnected from the internet permanently.

Which hardware does it support?

A Gira HomeServer 4. GiraConnect talks to it over the documented CGI API (select, get/add/set/del events, get_state, activate/deactivate). The read and write paths have been verified against real HomeServer 4 hardware.

What are presets and how do they help?

Presets capture a complete switching scenario – e.g. an event-day schedule – and replay it onto the timers in one step. Up to 20 presets can be stored, so recurring situations no longer have to be rebuilt by hand each time.

Is there a multi-user concept with roles and an audit trail?

Yes. Logins, roles and permissions are built in, and every change is recorded in an audit log. You can see who changed which switch point and when – useful for operations where several people share responsibility for the building.

What happens if the HomeServer is temporarily unreachable?

Changes you make in the app are written through immediately. A pull sync runs every few minutes and also catches changes made on the HomeServer side. If the HomeServer is unreachable, the run logs a warning and retries at the next interval – nothing is lost.

How is the configuration backed up?

GiraConnect can export and import the full configuration – settings, users and roles, timer configuration and presets – to move an installation to fresh hardware or restore it. The HomeServer password is only included if you supply a separate passphrase (AES-256).
