Lighting Control
with Loxone.

DALI, KNX and 1-10V united in one system – with presence control, circadian lighting and astro clock. Retrofit without cables via Air Dimmer. Up to 50% less electricity costs.

Loxone lighting control integrates DALI (up to 64 ECGs, 16 groups per Extension), KNX, 1-10V and Tree/Air dimmers in one central system without island solutions. Presence-controlled shutdown combined with daylight dimming saves typically 40–60% electricity in offices. Retrofit without new cables is possible via Loxone Air Dimmer in flush-mounted boxes. HELITS realizes lighting projects from single-family homes to commercial buildings in Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland.

DALI: The standard for professional building lighting

DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) is the industry protocol for professional LED lighting control. The Loxone DALI Extension integrates up to 64 DALI-capable ECGs (Electronic Control Gear) on one bus – individually addressable, groupable into up to 16 groups and programmable with 16 scenes per line. DALI-2 (DT8) also enables control of color temperature (CCT) and RGB – the basis for Human Centric Lighting (HCL) in offices and commercial buildings.

KNX integration: Integrate existing, not replace

Existing KNX installations (switches, presence detectors, dimmers) are not removed, but integrated into the Loxone system via the Loxone KNX interface (KNX/IP or KNX-TP). Loxone sends and receives KNX group objects and supplements the existing KNX logic with schedules, scenes and cross-discipline automation (lighting + shading + climate). Existing ETS projects remain valid in parallel.

Presence control and daylight dimming

Loxone presence detectors (Tree or Air) detect people in the room and switch the light on only when needed. Integrated brightness measurement (Lux sensor) automatically regulates the dimming value: when daylight is sufficient, artificial lighting remains dimmed or off. This combination achieves 40–60% electricity savings in offices according to DIAL studies compared to manual continuous operation – without loss of comfort.

Circadian lighting (Human Centric Lighting)

Loxone calculates the exact sun position from geographic coordinates and time, and adapts light color and intensity to the natural circadian rhythm: cool, blue-tinged light (6500 K) in the morning for activation, neutral white (4000 K) during the day, warm, reddish light (2700 K) in the evening for relaxation. Via DALI-2 DT8 or 1-10V CCT LEDs the transition is gradual. Studies show measurable effects on concentration, wellbeing and sleep quality (DIN SPEC 67600).

Loxone lighting expert
from Bad Reichenhall.

As a Loxone partner based in Anger (Berchtesgaden district), we plan and install lighting controls in the greater Bad Reichenhall, Berchtesgaden, Salzburg and Traunstein area. For commercial customers in Munich, Nuremberg and the rest of the DACH region, we realize projects with coordinated on-site installation partners and remote configuration.

Especially in the commercial sector, professional lighting planning according to DIN EN 12464-1 (workplaces) and DIN SPEC 67600 (Human Centric Lighting) is increasingly relevant for employer attractiveness and energy balance (Green Building, EU Taxonomy). We create the associated lighting planning and energy verification documentation.

Alpine region specialty: Short winter days in BGL (Berchtesgaden basin, less than 7 h daylight in December) require carefully calibrated Lux threshold values for daylight compensation. Our profiles are adapted to these regional light conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Answers about Loxone lighting control.

How many DALI lights can Loxone control?

expand_more
A Loxone DALI Extension supports up to 64 DALI-capable ballasts (ECGs) on one bus, divided into up to 16 groups and 16 scenes per line. Multiple DALI Extensions can be operated in parallel on the Miniserver – making it possible to cover larger buildings with hundreds of luminaires. Loxone supports DALI-2 (DT8 for color temperature) and classic DALI for dimming control.

Can Loxone take over an existing KNX lighting installation?

expand_more
Yes. Loxone connects via KNX/IP or KNX-TP directly to the existing KNX bus. Existing switches, presence detectors and dimmers from the KNX inventory remain in place and are centrally controlled via Loxone. Scenes, time programs and automations are defined in Loxone Config – the KNX devices send and receive group objects as usual.

What does circadian lighting control mean and how does Loxone implement it?

expand_more
Circadian lighting control (Human Centric Lighting, HCL) adapts light color and intensity to the natural circadian rhythm of humans: cool, blue-tinged light in the morning for activation, warm, reddish light in the evening for relaxation. Loxone calculates the sun position and automatically controls brightness and color temperature via DALI-2 (DT8) or 1-10V-capable luminaires. The transition is gradual – no abrupt switching.

Can Loxone lighting control be retrofitted in existing buildings?

expand_more
Yes, in two ways: (1) Loxone Air Dimmers are installed in existing flush-mounted boxes – no new cable to the light switch needed. (2) For DALI-capable LED power supplies, a DALI bus cable (2-wire) to the next Extension is sufficient. For office buildings with existing KNX infrastructure, the existing KNX infrastructure is integrated. In most cases no core renovation is necessary.

How does presence control work with Loxone?

expand_more
Loxone supports presence and motion detectors (Tree, Air, KNX, 1-Wire compatible) in every room. If the detector detects no person for a configurable time, Loxone dims the light gradually to 10% (pre-warning level) – anyone who moves keeps the light on. Loxone then switches off. Combined with brightness measurement: light is only switched on when daylight is insufficient (Lux threshold adjustable).

How much electricity does automatic lighting control with Loxone save?

expand_more
Presence-controlled shutdown combined with daylight dimming achieves typically 40–60% electricity savings in offices compared to manual continuous operation (source: DIAL studies, Zumtobel lighting planning). In residential areas it is usually 20–35%. Loxone records operating hours per light group locally – documentation for energy balance or Green Building certification possible.

Can Loxone control RGB and colored lights?

expand_more
Yes. Loxone controls RGB/RGBW luminaires via DALI-2 (DT8 Colour), DMX (via DMX Extension, up to 512 channels), and proprietary protocols via HTTP/API (e.g. Philips Hue via Bridge). Scene color values are stored in Loxone Config as RGB values. Dynamic lighting effects (sunrise simulation, movie scene, party lighting) are realizable via Loxone logic functions.

How is outdoor lighting controlled with Loxone?

expand_more
Loxone uses the built-in astro clock (sunrise and sunset based on GPS coordinates) for precise time-controlled switching on/off. No manual adjustment of switching times throughout the year. Additionally, twilight sensors or brightness measurement are used. Motion detectors in the outdoor area switch driveways and paths situationally – with configurable follow-up time and brightness.
