Blind & Shading Control
with Loxone.
Automatic sun protection by azimuth and elevation — wind protection in real time, slat tracking for daylight guidance and passive heat protection per GEG §14. Cloud-free, low-maintenance.
Loxone shading control calculates sun azimuth and elevation from GPS coordinates and controls venetian blinds, external blinds and roller shutters fully automatically — without cloud, without manual intervention. A wind sensor protects sensitive external blinds in gusts above 40 km/h. Slat tracking guides daylight onto office ceilings and saves up to 40% in artificial lighting costs. HELITS realises shading projects in Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland — particularly relevant for the Foehn conditions in the Berchtesgadener Land.
Shading explained —
Sun, wind & slats.
Sun position calculation without cloud
Loxone calculates the azimuth and elevation of the sun from GPS coordinates locally on the Miniserver — for every moment of the year, without external API. If a facade is directly sunlit, the shading on that side automatically extends. In winter with a low sun position, the shading stays up so solar heat gains can be used — fully automatic seasonal adjustment without manual intervention.
Wind protection in real time
A wind speed sensor (Loxone weather station or 1-Wire wind gauge) provides real-time wind data. If the wind speed exceeds the threshold (adjustable, typically 40 km/h for blinds, 25 km/h for awnings), Loxone immediately retracts all exposed elements — protecting slats and fabric from damage. After the wind drops, a safety period applies before re-extension. Particularly relevant for Foehn conditions in the Berchtesgadener Land.
Slat tracking for daylight guidance
For venetian blinds, Loxone controls not only the height but also the slat angle dynamically according to the sun position: direct radiation is blocked, diffuse light is reflected via angled slats onto the ceiling. The room stays bright without glare — artificial lighting demand falls measurably. Relevant for office spaces per DIN EN 12464-1 and DGNB/BREEAM green building certifications.
Climate coordination: shading + heating/cooling
Loxone coordinates shading with heating, cooling and ventilation. In summer: exceeding an outdoor temperature threshold causes south and west facades to shade preventively before the air conditioning responds — passive heat protection per GEG §14. In winter: sunshine with positive outdoor temperature keeps blinds up for solar gains. Window contacts stop shading when ventilating.

Use cases
From single-family homes to glass facades.
SFH south facade
Venetian blinds extend automatically when the sun shines, retract at night. No more manual operation — roller shutters also as burglary protection from 11 pm.
Office glass facade
DALI lighting + venetian blind slat tracking coordinated: daylight used, screen glare eliminated, air conditioning relieved.
Hotel room morning sun
Blinds close automatically at sunrise on the east facade. Wake routine opens slowly at the desired time — gentle awakening.
Conservatory Alps
Glass roof shading + ventilation combined. With Foehn wind gusts (BGL) immediate retraction. Awning only opens after 10 minutes of no wind.
Shading expert
in the Berchtesgadener Land.
The Bavarian Alpine foothills — especially the Berchtesgadener Land — are known for strong UV radiation in summer and pronounced Foehn conditions with sudden wind gusts. Our shading configurations are tailored to these weather conditions: lower wind protection thresholds, fast retraction responses and seasonal sun position profiles.
From Anger (Landkreis BGL) we personally manage shading projects in Bad Reichenhall, Berchtesgaden, Freilassing, Traunstein and Salzburg. In the rest of Bavaria and the DACH region we coordinate projects remotely with local electrician partners.
