Audioserver · Spotify · AirPlay · 16 zones

Multiroom Audio — Loxone Audioserver for every zone.

Up to 16 audio zones synchronous or independent. Spotify Connect, AirPlay, web radio — automatically quieter when the doorbell rings, alarm siren when it counts.

TL;DR — Key summary

The Loxone Audioserver (successor to the Music Server) distributes audio in up to 16 independent or synchronous stereo zones — latency under 20 ms for echo-free open-space sound. Sources: Spotify Connect (Premium), AirPlay (priority), UPnP, TuneIn web radio, local NAS library. Doorbell triggers automatic volume ducking; alarm events play all zones as a siren. HELITS installs and configures for private clients, hotels and commercial properties in the Berchtesgadener Land and DACH.

Loxone Audioserver technical depth

The Audioserver is not a simple Wi-Fi speaker — it is a fully Miniserver-integrated multiroom audio matrix.

Up to 16 zones — synchronous or independent

The Audioserver delivers up to 16 stereo outputs (analogue RCA/jack per zone). Each zone plays completely independently — kitchen plays Spotify, bedroom web radio, living room AirPlay. For open-plan offices or hotel corridors: zone groups synchronise with under 20 ms latency, no audible echo between adjacent rooms. The channel count is the highest of all integrated smart home audio systems in the Loxone ecosystem.

Sources & protocols

Spotify Connect (Premium required): the native Spotify app controls directly — no Loxone UI needed. AirPlay has source priority and takes over immediately when an Apple device streams. UPnP renderer for DLNA-compatible players. TuneIn web radio with station search in the Miniserver. Local library on USB stick or NAS (FLAC, MP3, AAC, WAV). Loxone Radio: pre-installed stations with no configuration effort.

Doorbell ducking & chime

Doorbell impulse from the Loxone Intercom or KNX door station triggers automatically: volume drops immediately to configured level (e.g. 20%), chime sounds in hallway and living room zone, voice announcement optional ('Visitor at the front door'). After configurable time or door opening the volume returns. No separate gateway, no script — mapped purely in Loxone logic.

security

Alarm siren via audio zones

Security event (motion detector, window contact) → all or selected zones immediately play alarm WAV at maximum volume. Separate piezo sirens become unnecessary. Additionally: voice announcements ('Intruder detected') for psychologically stronger deterrent effect. Integration with VdS alarm system via relay contact: EMA reports, Loxone confirms via audio alarm in all rooms.

Integrate existing speakers, use streaming services — no complete replacement necessary.

Integrating existing speakers

Passive ceiling-mount

4–8 ohm in-ceiling speakers are operated with Loxone Amplifier or third-party amplifier. Most cost-effective solution for new builds with pre-cabled houses.

UPnP/DLNA speakers

Denon HEOS, Yamaha MusicCast and other UPnP renderers are integrated as additional zones — no replacement necessary.

AirPlay speakers

Sonos devices with AirPlay 2, Apple HomePod, Bang & Olufsen — via AirPlay as additional zones. Loxone devices retain priority.

Typical use cases

Single-family home sound with scenes

Private

"Morning" scene: kitchen web radio, bedroom quiet playlist. "Party" scene: all zones Spotify synchronised, maximum volume. "Evening": living room dimmed + jazz.

Restaurant zone audio

Gastronomy

Terrace loud, indoor quieter, kitchen no audio. Opening time automation: music on at 10 am, automatically off at 11 pm. Note GEMA obligations.

Hotel room streaming

Hospitality

Guest controls room speaker via AirPlay or QR code. Reception hears a separate programme. Wake-up call via audio announcement at configured time.

Physio / practice waiting room

Practice

Waiting area gentle background music, treatment rooms independent. Doctor call triggers name announcement into waiting room. No network changes needed.

HELITS — Audio integration in Bavaria & DACH

Multiroom audio as part of the complete smart home — that is the HELITS approach. A separate Sonos system that knows nothing about lighting, shading or security wastes the potential: Loxone connects audio seamlessly with every other system logic in the building.

HELITS is a Loxone partner headquartered in Anger (Berchtesgadener Land district) and serves properties in Bad Reichenhall, Berchtesgaden, Traunstein, Salzburg and the entire DACH region. For premium residential buildings in the Salzburg area and alpine hospitality, high-quality, reliable multiroom audio is a differentiating feature compared to standard installations.

Our team plans, wired or with Loxone Air (wireless), both new build and renovation projects — from cable planning to fine-tuning the equaliser profiles per room.

Frequently asked questions about the Loxone Audioserver

What is the difference between the Loxone Audioserver and the old Music Server?expand_more
The Loxone Audioserver is the successor to the Music Server (generation change 2023). It additionally supports AirPlay 2 as a priority source, offers improved Spotify Connect integration (no separate Loxone UI required — the native Spotify app controls directly), higher channel count (up to 16 stereo zones) and modern codec support (FLAC, AAC). The Music Server is no longer actively developed.
Do I need a Spotify Premium subscription for Loxone multiroom audio?expand_more
A Spotify Premium subscription is required for Spotify Connect via the Loxone Audioserver. Free accounts do not support Spotify Connect (Spotify restriction, not Loxone). Alternatively, AirPlay (iOS/macOS, priority over player queue), UPnP, local file library (FLAC/MP3/AAC) and TuneIn web radio are available without a Premium requirement.
How many audio zones does the Loxone Audioserver support?expand_more
A Loxone Audioserver supports up to 16 stereo zones. Each zone can independently play a different source and volume, or be synchronised with any other zones — latency under 20 ms for synchronous playback in open-plan offices or open-space areas without audible echo. Multiple Audioservers can be combined when more than 16 zones are required.
How does the doorbell integration with the Audioserver work?expand_more
When someone rings, Loxone automatically sends an audio ducking command: the volume of all active zones drops immediately to approx. 20%, a chime sound plays in configured zones, and an optional voice announcement feature says 'Someone at the front door'. After a defined time or after the door opens, the volume returns to the original level — fully automatically.
Can the Audioserver be used as an alarm siren?expand_more
Yes. During a security event (motion detector, window contact, intercom motion detection), Loxone can immediately play an alarm tone (loud, configurable WAV file) through all or selected audio zones. This replaces separate piezo sirens and simultaneously enables voice announcements ('Intruder detected — police notified') for maximum deterrent effect.
Which speakers are compatible with the Loxone Audioserver?expand_more
The Audioserver provides analogue stereo outputs (RCA/jack) per zone to passive or active speakers. Passive ceiling-mounted speakers (4–8 ohm) are operated with an amplifier (e.g. Loxone Amplifier or third-party). Existing active UPnP/AirPlay speakers (Denon HEOS, Sonos) can be integrated as additional zones via protocol bridge — no replacement necessary.
Is the Audioserver also suitable for commercial use (restaurant, hotel)?expand_more
Yes, with one restriction: GEMA obligations for public broadcasting apply regardless of the audio system used — even with Spotify and Loxone. For restaurants, hotels and practices a GEMA licence (tariff M-V/W) must be in place. Technically the Audioserver is suitable for commercial use: zone scheduling (terrace music from 10 am), automatic volume reduction at midnight, different sources per area.
Does the Audioserver work without an internet connection?expand_more
Partially. Streaming services (Spotify, TuneIn) require internet. Local sources — file library on USB/NAS, stored playlists — play completely offline. AirPlay works on the local network without internet. For holiday homes with unstable connections we recommend a local NAS library as a fallback source.
